Who We Are

National Agro Foundation (NAF) is a Public Charitable Trust, founded in 2000 by Mr. C Subramaniam, Architect of India's Green Revolution and Bharat Ratna Awardee to revive rural India through rural innovations. After his demise, Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam was the chairman and he held this post till he became the President of India.Inspired by the opportunity to deliver innovative and replicable solutions to the complex and interlinked socio- economic- environmental challenges of today’s rural India we have articulated an agile strategy with prime focus on advancing and strengthening the interdependent and mutually reinforcing pillars of sustainable development – “Education” “Economy”, “Environment” & “Empowerment”.

As a part of Food and Agriculture Development initiatives, National Agro Foundation Extend Technology and Analytical Services to the Farmers, Farmers, MSME Food Enterprises, Food Industries, Farmers Producer Organisation, Students. About The Owner

Elder statesman, administrator, social thinker, speaker and writer, Shri C. Subramaniam was first and foremost a patriot devoted, in pre-independence days to the cause of freedom; and later to the development of the country; and the preservation of its rich cultural heritage. As a member of the Constituent Assembly, he immensely contributed in shaping the Constitution of India. As a major political administrator for more than four decades, he served as the Minister of Finance and Education at the erstwhile Madras State Legislative Assembly and later at the Union Cabinet. He held several important portfolios as a Union Minister like Planning, Defence, notably Food and Agriculture, Steel and Heavy Industries, and Science and Technology. He also held various significant positions like Chairman of Agriculture Commission; Chairman of Aeronautics Commission; Governor of Maharashtra and President of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan world wide among others. With his courageous attitude, strategic decision-making abilities and innovative approach; he has left his mark on almost every field of national significance may it be agriculture, finance, science & technology, education, policy-making, steel & heavy industry or national defence.


Among all his significant contributions to our nation-building, he will be gratefully remembered as the Architect of India’s Green Revolution, which transformed the country from a precarious “ship-to-mouth” existence to food surplus nation.


Mr. Subramaniam was awarded with the nation’s highest civilian honour of the Bharat Ratna for his contribution to Green Revlution in India. He is a receipent of Y.B. Chavan Award for National Integration and as well as International honours such as the ‘U Thant Peace Award’ and ‘Borlaug Award’ among others.


As a parting gift to his nation on his 90th birthday, he founded the National Agro Foundation (NAF), with the vision to create a prosperous rural India through rural innovations.

  • First computer based Adult Literacy Program launched at Chunampet village in collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)
  • First Cattle Development Centre at Gummidipoondi inaugurated.

  • NAF Food Microbiology Laboratory was established

  • NAF - IGNOU Community college registered and inaugurated with IGNOU
2010
  • NAF recognised as Nodal Training Institute for training for agriculture graduates and diploma holders under Agri Clinic and Agri Business Center (ACABC) scheme of Govt. of India and program launched.
  • NABARD - NAF FTTF project on "Farm Productivity Improvement launched."
2012
  • NAF reached out to the rural communities in Andhra Pradesh.
  • NAF recognized as Resource Institution for conducting residential training program for office bearers of Panchayat Level Federation (PLF) by Tamil Nadu State Non Governmental Organisation and Volunteer Resource Centre(TNVRC) supported by Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women, GoTN.
  • Sirunagar Farmers Club promoted and nurtured by NAF receives the coveted State Level Best Farmers Club Award from NABARD
2013
  • NAF join hands with Tamil Nadu Agriculture University (TNAU) for Agriculture Development Initiatives
  • NAF empanelled as a field partner by BNY Mellon
2014
  • NAF empanelled with National CSR Hub coordinated by Tata Institute of Social Sciences
  • NAF Laboratory Services Division granted accreditation for soil, food and water testing; as per ISO/IEC 17025:2005 International Standard by National Accreditation Board for testing and calibration Laboratories (NABL), GOI
  • NAF R & D Centre empanelled by IGNOU as a Program Study Centre (PSC) for PG Diploma in Food Safety and Quality Management Program.
2015
  • NAF's First CSR project on "Integrated Community Development Program" launched in Coimbatore under support from Larsen & Toubro Ltd.
  • NAF empanelled as Resource Institution by SFAC and NABARD for promoting and nurturing Farmers Producer Organization (FPO)
  • CSR project on "Watershed and Natural Resource Management program" commenced in Odisha state supported by AVH Chemicals Private Limited.

Social Responsibilities

With CSR becoming the crucial need of the industry for the corporate firms to balance their triple-bottom line, here are the snippets of some of our projects completed in the past years.

Watershed and Natural Resource Management Project in Odisha

  • This project was implemented by NAF during 2015–16 with support of M/s Epsilon Carbon Private Limited (formerly M/s AVH Private Limited) under their CSR initiatives in Sambalpur district in Odisha state. The project activities included awareness creation to farming community, channel clearance and check dam repair and related training.

 

Training program with Sundaram Fasteners Limited (SFL)
  • Sundaram Fasteners sponsored farmers training program titled “Training of Farmers on Farm productivity Improvement and Agri Value Chain Enterprises” was conducted during 2014-15. More than 250 farmers in batches participated in this residential program wherein various agri technologies to be followed from seed – harvest of various crops were covered extensively.

 

Training Program on Agriculture Productivity Improvement with TAFE
  • Under the CSR support of TAFE, NAF trained farmers nominated by TAFE on Lean Farming Technologies for Crop Productivity Improvement. 250 farmers from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh participated in the residential training program.

 

Training Program for Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS) farmers
  • NAF trained the farmers associated with TSRDS on agriculture productivity improvement during 2014-15. Farmers from Jharkhand and Odisha attended the training program on hi-tech vegetable cultivation at NAF Centre for Rural Development.
